Fishers Music Society presents the Fishers Chamber Players in their second concert of the season. Featured will be the classic Christmas opera, Amahl and the Night Visitors. Amahl and the Night Visitors will be performed at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, 2007 under the direction of Artistic Director Michael Vaughn and Stage Director Mario Cuomo. The concert will take place at the PROMiSE Church, 12648 E. 116th Street, Fishers, IN.
Amahl and the Night Visitors is a one act opera commissioned by NBC in 1951 for television. Gian Carlo Menotti wrote the libretto and score. Amahl, a disabled boy, lives with his mother, a widow. One night, they are visited by three kings on their way to give gifts to a wondrous child. The story unfolds, and a miracle takes place. A beautiful and moving Christmas story, the program is suitable for audiences of all ages, and will be about 45 minutes in length.
Playing the title role of Amahl will be young Tarik Abdou, of Fishers. Abdou performed the boy soprano solo in the Chichester Psalms with the Indianapolis Symphony in May 2007. In addition, he performed the boy soprano solo in "Elijah" with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and the Indpls Symphonic Choir in June 2007. A member of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir and New World Youth Orchestras, Tarik attends the Orchard School. “Tarik has an absolutely amazing voice, and has real star quality,” commented stage director, Mario Cuomo. Playing his mother will be another Fishers singer, Julie Rhea. Rhea was featured as a soprano soloist with the Fishers Chamber Players in their premiere season. She is a soloist at North United Methodist and has sung for the Indianapolis Opera chorus.
Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, and children 0-18 are free with a paying adult, but must have a free ticket to guarantee a seat. Fishers, Indiana — The Fishers Chamber Players proudly announce the formation of the Jongsun Lim Junior Division Young Artist Award, and will be accepting preliminary applications in September 2007. The award has been made possible by a generous gift from Dr. Bomie Han. Han’s daughter, Sunhee Han, was named as the competition’s junior division winner in the organization’s first annual Young Artist Competition in November 2006. At that time, a cash prize was only offered for the senior division winner, and was not offered for the junior division winner. Both division winners received the opportunity to solo with the Fishers Chamber Players. Recognizing the need for a cash prize for future junior division winners, Han generously donated $1000, which has been matched by Eli Lilly Foundation. The donations have been used to create an endowment which will permanently fund the Jongsun Lim Junior Division Young Artist Award.
The award is named in honor of Han’s wife, concert pianist and educator Jongsun Lim. Having received both a bachelor's and master's degree in Piano Performance from the Julliard School, Lim also pursued a doctorate at Boston University before motherhood interrupted her studies. A scholarship recipient at both schools, Lim has an impressive listing of international awards and recitals to her name. She was Grand Prize winner of the Jung Ang Competition in New York, NY; 1st Place winner of the Brazil Herald Competition, in Sao Paulo, Brazil; and 1st Place winner of The National Teenagers Competition, in Seoul, Korea. She has performed solo recitals in the National Theatre in Seoul, South Korea, and at the Lincoln Center in New York, NY, as well as many other locations throughout the world. Currently the organist and pianist at the Korean Presbyterian Church of Indianapolis, Lim is an accomplished accompanist, chamber musician, piano instructor, and soloist.
The preliminary round of the Fishers Chamber Players second annual Young Artist Competition will take place in September. Open to students in grades K-12 who reside in the state of Indiana, recordings and applications must be postmarked by September 29, 2007. Finalists will be notified by mail, and will perform in a live final round on October 20, 2007. At that time, a panel of judges will select a Junior Division and Senior Division winner. The 1st Prize winner in the Junior and Senior division will be awarded a cash prize, and have an opportunity to perform with the orchestra on March 30, 2008. Please note that the concert date has been changed from what was originally announced on the organization's website. In addition, the judges will select a winner from each division for Best Performance by a Fishers Resident. To be eligible, the entrant must have a Fishers 46038 or Fishers 46037 home address, or live in the Hamilton Southeastern school district. This Best Performance by a Fishers Resident prize does not include a cash award or performance opportunity, but the winners will be honored and presented with a certificate at the March 30, 2008 concert.

Fishers, Indiana -- The Fishers Chamber Players will offer free admission to one concert this season, thanks to generous underwriting by the Fishers Town Council. "As we strive to create a successful organization, one of our biggest challenges has been building awareness," Artistic Director Michael Vaughn said. "There are still many residents and businesses in the town who don't know very much about us. We are hoping this will not only enhance our visibility, but also bring new people to our concerts."
"We're very excited that the council has taken the step of underwriting a concert," added Executive Director Nana Gaskins Vaughn. "The arts are an important part of a well-rounded community, and by underwriting a concert, the Town Council has helped to increase awareness of the emerging arts scene in Fishers."
The free concert will take place on Oct. 7, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. The venue location is in final negotiations and will be announced soon. Seating is limited.
Preparing to embark on its second season, the Fishers Chamber Players is a professional music ensemble based in Fishers, Indiana. Although the group specializes in classical music, it is quickly becoming known for its diverse musical selections and guest artists. Child care is offered at all concerts. Reservations for child care must be made three days prior to the concert.

Fishers, Indiana — The Fishers Chamber Players will be conducting a “100 X 100” fundraising drive for its 2007-2008 season. “We have been successful in producing a first season of extremely high quality with limited resources,” said Artistic Director Michael Vaughn. “Now we are asking individuals and businesses in the community to step up and help us continue to build a solid foundation for our orchestra. We want to be sure that Fishers becomes known not only as a great place to live and work, but also a great place to enjoy arts and culture.”
During its first season, the Fishers Chamber Players has collaborated with award winning jazz pianist and composer, Becky Archibald, produced the Nutcracker Suite with G. Scotten Dance Academy, and conducted its first Young Artist Competition, among other accomplishments. Art Levine, Fishers Town Councilor commented, “It’s amazing what this group has achieved in a short time. Fishers is a wonderful community, but having arts groups of the quality of the Fishers Chamber Players adds an element to our area that has long been missing.” He added, “The presence of an orchestra in our town brings an identity to us that will be attractive to people looking to relocate to Fishers for jobs, and that will help businesses and our economy.”
Businesses and individuals will be asked to participate by contributing $100 toward the Fishers Chamber Players’ 2007-2008 season. “Our goal is to get 100 donors to participate,” Executive Director, Nana Gaskins Vaughn, said. “It is a modest goal, but we think it is very attainable and will help us achieve our goals for next season,” Gaskins Vaughn added. “For the long term success of our organization, we need individuals in the community and businesses to step in and help.” 100 X 100 donors will receive recognition in 2007-2008 season programs and on the organization’s website, as well as be able to opt to receive 10 complimentary tickets to concerts of their choice.
As the 100 X 100 drive begins, the orchestra’s Founders Program will conclude on June 1, 2007. Individuals who donate at least $250 and businesses who donate at least $500 to FCP before 6/1/07 will be permanently listed as a “FOUNDER” in each future concert program & on the website, as well as being recognized for their participation in the 2007-2008 “100 X 100 campaign.”
